Dark Globes to release debut album

SHOEGAZE outfit Dark Globes will release their debut album Everyone I Know Is Falling Apart in the first quarter of 2017.

To celebrate the release, the Southend-on-sea band has shared the video for their track Never Let Me Down.

Dark Globes first came together in a Victorian boozer in the Essex seaside town, evolving around main songwriters Tom Burgess and Leighton Jennings. They played their first show as a three-piece at a local folk festival with no prior rehearsals.

Soon they took on third guitarist Richard Onslow, bassist Andrew Moore (known for his output as The Tumbledryer Babies) and drummer Chris Richardson, who also makes lo-fi pop as Happy Hooves.

One rehearsal later, the band began playing shows and recorded their debut album.

Guitarist Richard told RealSoundsOK: "Everyone I Know Is Falling Apart is the culmination of all our disparate influences - indie heroes Teenage Fanclub, the reverb-drenched melancholy of Yo La Tengo and Galaxie 500 and the precise jangle of Felt – but with a distinctive voice all its own, a sound that takes inspiration from all over, but could only come from the Essex coast."

The album, which is out on March 17th 2017, is the first to be released on the recently resurrected Half Machine Records – known for the debut singles by Real Estate, Woods, Banjo or Freakout and the critically-acclaimed reissue of Roberto Cacciapaglia’s space pop classic The Ann Steel Album.

You can watch the video for Never Let Me Down below and for more on the band visit darkglobes.com

Mothlight Q&A

Your name:
Matt. I do guitar and vocals.

Where are you from?
Los Angeles.

Name of band:
Mothlight.

Who else is in your band?
Grant sings and plays keyboard and Andrew plays drums and other percussion.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
I'd describe our music as a mix of indie rock and a 70s psychedelic film soundtrack. We try to make songs that are catchy and cinematic, so we use a lot of sounds that are warm and enveloping.

Who are your main influences musically?
I listen to a lot of both contemporary and old music. I'm constantly listening to a lot of older krautrock like Neu! and Can. For more modern stuff I dig Animal Collective, Broadcast, and Stereolab. I'm also super inspired by John Carpenter and David Lynch films. Basically anything that makes me feel like I'm in another world I can get super behind.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
It would be sweet to just make art and be able to get by. Mothlight is my passion and always will be regardless of my employment status, but if I could focus entirely on making songs and really making any kind of art without having to worry about holding a 9 to 5 job, that would be the dream. I guess that's every musician's dream. I'm also really interested in sound design and I studied film so I would love to work on some experimental film soundscapes some day.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Releasing our first full length Calico is my favorite moment. We worked really hard for a long time on it and are super proud of it. We also learned what works in Mothlight and what doesn't work, especially in the recording process. It's allowed us to be better at writing together creating a more collaborative and thus stronger band dynamic. Everything really exciting is yet to come though.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
I have played shows with a few too many chemical influences in my system, but I've found those instances to just be lessons in what my body and mind are capable (and more importantly not capable) of.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
My favorite song that Mothlight has released thus far is Swim from Calico, but I'm far more excited for the new songs we are currently working on.

Where can we listen to it?
Swim is available to stream on Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/mothlight/swim

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your music that I forgot to ask?
We're currently recording and should have a lot of new material for the universe's ear drums this summer!!

Electric Floor Q&A

Your name:
Emanuele Chiarelli (vocals/guitar).

Where are you from?
Cosenza, Italy.

Name of band:
Electric Floor.

Who else is in your band?
Simone Costantino De Luca (programming/keys), Fabio Cosentino (bass) and Andrea Castagnello (guitar).

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
We are four guys with different music tastes, so in our music you can find a lot of influences. It's a mix of ambient sounds, tribal rhythms and obsessive riffs. It's very difficult to define what our music is, but we think it's a melting pot of shoegaze, dream pop, synthpop, chillwave of course.

Who are your main influences musically?
We get inspiration from New Wave and 90's shoegaze, in particular, we are influenced by bands who use drum machine.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We want to grow up day by day, learn more and more and try to communicate our feelings to all people with our music.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Now is the right time, absolutely. My Bloody G. it is our new single and it is going really good abroad. Many radios are playing our new single as well and we are all so glad and excited for it.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Definitely in July of 2012, we were the victims of theft of all our music instruments. That was a horrible experience. This is the moment we would to forget of course.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Certainly our new single, My Bloody G. probably because it is our last song and sometimes the last is the best song, more experience and more ripeness. The lyrics are a real chaos and we love chaos.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your music that I forgot to ask?
You forgot to ask us if we are happy. The answer is yes, we are! Thank you for contacting us. It was a great pleasure answer the questions.

For Esmé release video just for You

ELECTRO trio For Esmé have released their new single You.

It is a glimpse into the Toronto outfit's album to be released later this year.

Martha Meredith from the band told RealSoundsOK: "Poised between nouveaux and nostalgia, reality and the sublime, our new work is about being present in the moment, and ultimately, immeasurably open to joy.

"The video amplifies the feeling of losing yourself to the beat, and letting go of your inhibitions. A dreamlike adventure through an old school at night, the excitement, secrecy and spontaneity."

Martha takes vox, drum machine and synth duties in For Esmé with Dave Thiel (bass, electronic soundscapes) and Nathan Crook (guitar, vox) making up the trio.

The moment we forgot who we were, it was brief.

New single from Aaron

DREAM pop artist Aaron has released her new single Borderline as a free download.

The track is taken from the Londoner's debut EP Letters To Jonny, which is due out on April 27th.

Aaron told RealSoundsOK: "Borderline is the closest thing I have to a slow jam. I wrote it with the supremely talented Brey and we both felt it more like therapy than work.

"We have our own interpretation of the song. To me it's about someone testing you and your limits. The lyrics explore those emotions: how far you allow yourself to be pushed, how long until you have to say 'stop' and is this sadness enjoyable in some way.

"I really love the composition and production of this track. It has the most live recorded instruments of the whole EP. The broken drum pattern and bass were fundamental to the heavy, emotive weight and the warped piano, synth and strings lift it in contrast.

"To me, the whole thing together feels very grand and sad all at once."

You can listen to the track below and visit facebook.com/aaronofficialuk for more.

Hazia Q&A

Your name:
Phil Brooker.

Where are you from?
Manchester, UK.

Name of band:
Hazia.

Who else is in your band?
Just me...I rope in vocal samples to help me out.

How would you describe your music?
Blissy electronic dreampop/shoegaze with loops and spoken-word samples.

Who are your main influences musically?
default genders, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Pure Bathing Culture, A Sunny Day in Glasgow...

What do you hope to achieve in music?
I just want to make some interesting stuff and share it around best I can. Keeping the aims small, baby steps :-)

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? And what’s the moment you want to forget?
They're both kind of the same moment...I originally wanted a singer for scorched-out lead vocals and lush harmonies, but it got really frustrating trying to get in touch with people, meet people, try and work with people, all that...social media is SHIT for this sort of thing, but who knows how else we're supposed to do it now? So I was getting really restless with that, not really getting anywhere where all I want to do was be productive and get recording, I just seemed to be wasting a lot of time treading water, so that's the bit I'd rather forget. But  I kind of made a decision over Christmas 2014, it just wasn't going to happen with a singer (and I can't sing myself), so I needed to come up with a way of dealing with that...so I started playing around with spoken word samples I ripped from films, interviews, wherever...when you hear these things through the right filter, you can start to hear the basic rhythms of speech, things that don't really translate into 'lyrics' or 'melodies' but which are pretty fucking beautiful as they are...so instantly I started to feel tonnes better about what I was doing with Hazia: I can do this on my own! So I guess realising that and getting to work in this new direction has been the highlight so far...small things!

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
The new debut 'double A-side' (yeah yeah) about sums it up... Bull of God / Lamb of God, two sides of the same coin...

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?
Twitter: @HaziaMusic

Anything else you’d like to say about your music that I forgot to ask?
Come see me play! Taking this on the road soon as I can - it's going to be pretty intense trying to control all this stuff at once, electronic production alongside 'real' instruments (guitar and bass), should be pretty interesting! Thanks.

Neutronic Q&A

Your names:
Paul and Iuliana.

Where are you from?

Chester, UK

Name of band:
Neutronic.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
We describe ourselves as down-tempo indie pop, but there are also some elements of trip hop and dreampop in our sound. We share vocal duties and use our contrasting styles and accents (UK/Romania) to try and create something a bit different.

Who are your main influences musically?
Probably The XX as they have that laid back female/male vocal sound. We like the minimal delicacy in acts like Lapsley and London Grammar but really we both listen to a wide range of genres to help shape our songs.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Currently we are just writing and recording and sharing our music and seeing where it takes us. We are still a new act so we are looking to build our reputation and release a strong set of songs that we are proud of.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Knowing that our first song was selected to play on BBC Radio 6 twice in a week (via Tom Robinson) was a big deal! Having it played on BBC regional radio was amazing but this took it to another level.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Being so new we haven’t had much in the way of bad experiences. A recent photo shoot outdoors had to be taken indoors due to a sudden hailstorm but that may actually turn out to be a positive.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
From the first batch of songs written we chose ‘Closer’ to release because it contains all the aspects we want to be associated with. It has a gentle soundtrack with the focus on our differing vocal style.

Bibi Bellatrixx Q&A

Your name?
Regina Olagunju.

Where are you from?
London, UK.

Artist Name:
Bibi Bellatrixx.

How would you describe yourself?
I call it alternative dream pop. My sound is a blend of everything I've ever heard and loved.
It's dark yet playful, sunny yet melancholic. It is an embodiment of me.

Who are your main influences musically?
Bob James, John Mayer, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Prince to name a few.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To keep on creating music. I'd love to take my songs on the road and play them to audiences all over the world.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Well my career has been going that long ;) SO... its going to have to be the release of my debut EP B-Side Part I.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
I dont have one yet...! [Touch wood!]

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
It would probably be No Place To Call. It was written during a very turbulent time in my life and holds a lot weight in terms of its emotional value. I would also pick this one because a lot of people don't believe me when I say that I play all the parts to my songs, so that is the song that best displays my playing ability.

Where can we find out more about your music?
I'm on all the usual social networks! Come and say hello :)
Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?

I guess about any future plans... :) I'm going to be releasing more music and hopefully filming a video soon, so join me on any of the above networks and stay tuned!

Hayley Faye - Vocals & Guitar
K DaSilva - Guitar & Effects

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
Sweeping major to minor chords, great bursting choruses like the sun cracking through the clouds and tunes that etch into your head on first hearing… but you wish it wasn’t always so blokey?

Who are your main influences musically?
James, U2, Slowdive, Beatles, Sigur Ros, Verve, RHCP, Low Roar, Fink.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To have people enjoy the songs the songs we write and also record a album or ep that we feel proud of and also play some lovely venues around the UK.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
There are a couple, I guess supporting Liam Frost in Manchester also My Architects a number of times in Warrington and The Elected (Blake Sennet) at Club Academy in Manchester.
Also having Fallout on the first overplay CD that got sent out to all the labels, also Danny and Mary from Blue Cat Music for including Starstruck on the Out of The City.
And I guess most of all to the people who sent time coming to see Hannah over the years and making every gig enjoyable.

Not really we have had some funny moments playing gigs. I think if you asked Hayley it would most likely be the ZanziBar in Liverpool where she had to lay down on the floor for most of gig due to her guitar strap breaking.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Stalker and because I feel it was the package everything was big and sweeping and just right!

Where can we listen to it?

Static In Verona Q&A

Your name:
Rob Merz.

Where are you from:
Chicago, IL.

Name of band:
Static in Verona.

Who else is in your band?
I do everything in the band - from playing all the instruments and singing to producing, mixing and mastering all the recordings. I even do all the album art, web design and promotion. After being in several bands, it’s nice to not have a committee telling you what to do.

How would you describe yourself?
A recent review very eloquently described it as: “Dreamy power pop weaving around an eclectic mixture of experimental, electronic and rock, as sound bursts with creativity and intrigue.”
The music I strive to make is always based around catchy pop songs, but with elements of experimental, electronic and ambience surrounding them. I love strong harmonies and melodies, but also love a wall of sound.

Who are your main influences musically?
I listen to many types of music (rock, pop, jazz, classical) and I like to think I draw influence from all of it. I love artists like Beck who can really do any genre of music, but ultimately it still sounds like a Beck song.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To get as many people to hear my music as possible by any means necessary. Whether they buy it, stream it, burn it or download it. I just love people listening to it.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
My latest album, Everything You Knew Before You Knew Everything took over four years to record and I went through a lot during it (my parents separated, my children were born, I moved to a different town). There were times where I thought I would never finish it. I was suffering from some writer’s block, so I created it in a somewhat unique way where I recorded all the music first and then I’d listen to it over and over again (in the car, at home, etc.) and write lyrics in small doses when something hit me. So basically I wrote 13 songs at the same time (which is about as productive as it sounds). After several years of this, I got really used to hearing the songs as instrumentals and was worried about messing them up with lyrics and vocals. But when I finally sang on that first song, it was very liberating. Kind of like that first time you drive a car by yourself. After that, the rest of the songs took shape and I was really excited about finishing the album. It finally came out earlier this year.
So I would say the highlight so far was not only finishing and releasing the album, but the amazing reception it has received. It’s amazing to know all my hard work paid off in the end.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
I really don’t have any regrets about anything musically. I think every bad experience, every bad song or bad show is a learning experience to make you stronger in the end.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I always have a hard time picking one song for people to listen to because to understand my sound you really need to hear several songs so they don’t get labeled as just pop or shoegaze or electronic. So I’m gonna cheat and pick two:
Friendly Fires: This was one of the first songs I finished for the album and I released it a year before the entire album was complete on a free teaser EP called “Some Things You Knew” (which is still available on Bandcamp and staticinverona.com). It was a song that I could hear very vividly in my heard but was worried I wouldn’t be able to get the same sound on record. There are 8 or 9 tracks of vocals that intertwine and it was a complete headache to mix but in the end I think it surpassed my original idea. I think it shows my pop sensibility but also has elements of electronic, mixed with the layers of guitar that I love. The album also contains a bonus track with a striped down remix of this song that really showcases some of the subtle nuances buried within.
Black Windows: This was one of the first songs I started for the record, but one of the last ones I finished. It has some of the most personal lyrics I’ve ever written, but it was a long road to get there, with probably 10-15 different drafts. I think it showcases not only my lyrical ability but the different layers of instruments I like use. At one point I think there’s drums, several tracks of vocals, guitars, piano, organ, Rhodes, horns and synths all playing off each other. I’m really proud of this one.

Where can we listen to it?

Also the Japanese label ThisTime Records just pressed my album on CD (everywhere else is download only) and there is limited stock available on their site: http://thistimerecords.shop-pro.jp/?pid=78580379

Anything else you’d like to say that I forgot to ask?
I am currently working on a follow-up album tentatively titled “Anyone Anymore” and I am really hoping to cut down the recording time drastically. Hopefully it was be ready to be released in Spring 2015. Whether it will be an EP or a full-length, I’m not sure yet, but either way it will probably be free (or at least pay what you want). I have one song completed and six more with music, not to mention another 3 or 4 b-sides from the last album. The song “Heavy Hands” from it is already on Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/staticinverona/heavy-hands-rough-mix.
