Saul Chessin (keys, vocals).
Where are you from?
Live in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Born and raised in Missoula, Montana.
Name of band:
New Soul Authority.
Who else is in your band?
Brad
Beckwith (bass), Jack Hoole (drums), Bryan Hinschberger (vocals - first album
only).
How would you describe yourselves?
Soulful
RnB/funk/jazz. Music that stimulates emotion and makes a connection with
the listener.
Who are your main influences musically?
I've
listened to so many different genres of music, and most of it I appreciate and
enjoy, and as a musician, I took something from many of them. I believe
in my genre, I was mostly influenced by funk/soul artists in the 70-80's. I especially like Marvin Gaye, Joss Stone, Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Tom
Waits, and Jimmy Smith, but I also used to listen to a lot of Rock & Roll
(e.g., Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Rush, etc.). I think I've also been
influenced by roots music from traveling around the world, and meeting
musicians and just people that enjoy listening and dancing to music. They
have all shaped who I've become as a musician and song writer.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
I believe
that I best communicate through music, so I hope that I can connect with people
through that medium. If I could make a living playing/writing music, that
would be ideal.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and
why?
I suppose producing my first album, Get Down to the Core, was a
highlight. Also, there was a very touching moment when I sat down and
played the piano at the Jam Jar Lounge in Hobart, Tasmania, and one of the
employees told me that my music was "magical." Mostly, the
little highlights of people reaching out to me to tell me that my music
connects with them is really what I appreciate.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Nothing
major, little hiccups in shows (forgetting lyrics in a song, sound issues,
etc.)
If you could choose just one of your songs to represent
your music, what would it be and why?
This is very difficult, because my
music really touches upon many different styles and genres, but one of my
favorites is called Slow Down, which is a soulful ballad about
taking ones time in building a relationship. This seems to be one of my
fans favorites, as it is the most downloaded and streamed song of ours.
Where can we listen to it?
There is a
direct link to that song on my bands website www.newsoulauthority.com on
the music page. There are also other songs that can be
listened to there. Also, you can download a free copy of our song Pink Funk at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/newsoulauthority3

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I
forgot to ask?
Just that we all need to do what we can to spread love and
peace in this world, and music is a great way to bring people together and
break down barriers. That is what I'm really trying to do with my music.
